Playfords Successfully Complete Works at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden

Playfords have successfully completed the electrical, mechanical and plumbing services for the Royal Opera House Open Up project, an exceptionally prestigious project in the heart of London’s Covent Garden where the client has undertaken a complete refit of the Linbury Theatre and Foyer and expanded the entrance area to make a more welcoming and inviting atmosphere for the public to not only attend shows but to visit the Opera house and utilise the superb facilities they have in terms of restaurants, shop, bars and taking in the whole ambience of the theatre’s history.

Following the successful completion of the Open Up project, Playfords secured further works within the building and are now also completing the new external facade lighting installation and extensive new LED RGB Dali controlled lighting installation allowing the Opera House to change the colour rendering of the building and reflect different themes by use of the changes of the colours of the lights.

We have also been working with the Opera House stage specialists in upgrading the flying systems in the Main stage auditorium and Linbury Theatre, including the backstage automation equipment. The new Linbury Theatre will be the West End’s newest and most intimate theatre and will be brought into use shortly with shows being scheduled for later in the year, the Linbury Theatre being a smaller more intimate venue within the Opera house. Additional lighting upgrades are also being carried out in the Paul Hamlyn Hall, another new LED Dali controlled lighting installation again able to provide full control of the levels and colours of the lighting to reflect the environment for the use of the hall.

The brand new Linbury Theatre will become the West End’s newest, most intimate theatre, showcasing the best of art and opera providing a wealth of innovative world premieres, co-productions and collaborations.
